My abstract oil paintings and drawings represent fleeting instances of time with horizontal bands that hint at sky, water, architecture, horizon and earth. Separate moments are delineated with scar-like vertical pencil marks; often a grid adds structure beneath amorphous color swaths and pattern.
Guiding this exploration is the process: thinned paint interacts with other translucent layers; wet layers ooze, drip and separate as they dry. I collaborate with time, chemicals and gravity to achieve luminous color layers that suggest the unpredictable process of their creation. My painting surfaces are laid flat, placed upright or tipped at slight angles to encourage interaction between different colors and viscosities of paint. Each painting or drawing becomes a record of an ephemeral moment in time.see new art work >>
